Susan
I am a language teacher and language learner with lifetime experience in the learning and teaching of English and other languages.
I hold a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics, with coursework beyond the M.A. in American and English Literature, English Grammar and the History Of The English Language. I have also attended classes in languages and linguistics at various institutions in Chicago, Ottowa, Bogotá, Florence, Prague and Vilnius.
My teaching philosophy follows two fundamental requirements of the famous Moravian pedagogue Jan Amos Komenský: 1), that each class provide student centered instruction supported by creative technical innovation and 2), that constant, repeated response to student needs be the repetitio that is mother to all quality foreign language study.
Like my language learning experiences, my language teaching responsibilities have been international. I have taught languages in the United States, Colombia, Russia and The Czech Republic, where I served two years as a United States Fulbight Scholar. Since 1997 I have lived and worked in Chicago.
